Asthma (दमा) is one kind of chronic disease (पुरानी बीमारी) and also affected the lungs (फेफड़ों) and human respiratory system in which the airways (वायुमार्ग) narrow. Asthma causes wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness and coughing at night or early in the morning are important symptoms of Asthma disease.

Shortness of breath and difficulty in breathing is main symptoms of Asthma. This happens because of increased intake of air and food, internal weakness of lung tissues and various diseases affecting the lungs. Some environmental factor are responsible for cause Asthma like house dust, pollution , pollens and moulds allergens, tobacco smoke, chemical irritants in the work place and air pollution .

Asthma is Kapha (water) type of disease. But in some cases can be form any of three vaata, pitta, or kapha. Ayurvedic treatment of asthma main focuses on develop and maintain digestion system (पाचन तंत्र) with the herbal preparation and also diet.

Pitta type of asthma is characterized by cough and yellow phlegm (पीले कफ) and some other symptoms like fever, sweating, irritability, and need for cool air.

Kapha type of asthma is characterized by coughing and wheezing with abundant clear or white phlegm and some other symptoms like thirst, dry mouth, dry skin, constipation (कब्ज), anxiety (चिंता).
  • Avoid market’s fried and processed food and street food also.
  • Go for morning and evening walk.
  • Avoid all kind of excessive exercise. Prefer only Pranayama and Yoga.
  • Warm tea, honey, and some time spice tea are also taking.
  • Nuts, seeds and sprouts can be taken in average amount.
  • Avoid over eating, and take dinner one hour before sleep.
  • Avoid fruits like guava, papaya, watermelon and banana also.
  • Avoid food such as rice, curd, buttermilk, sugar, lentils, heavy milk product like cheese, paneer, ice-cream, flavored milk etc.
  • Drink carrot (गाजर) and spinach (पालक) juice 3 times in a day.
  • 1- Extract juice from garlic (लहसुन). Mix 12 to 15 drops in warm water and take internally twice in a day.
  • 2- Take licorice and ginger (अदरक) mix together. Take ½ tablespoon of this mixture in 1 cup of water for relief asthma disease
  • 3- Take 2 tablespoon of fenugreek seed (मेथी के बीज) in 1 liter water and allow simmer for 30 min. strain the liquid, take 2 tablespoon of ginger paste (अदरक का पेस्ट) and juice extract them. Place 1 tablespoon honey in mixture and mix well. Take this mixture every morning.
  • 4- Take 2 tablespoon of gooseberry powder (करौदा पाउडर) and 1 tablespoon of honey. Mix it well. Take this mixture every morning.
  • 5- Boil cumin seed (जीरा) in water and inhale the stem. it is help in breathing smoothly.
  • 6- Take 5 gm of ginger, black paper( काली मिर्च), cardamom (इलायची), clove (लौंग), cinnamon (दालचीनी), turmeric (हल्दी) and 30 gm of sugar. Grind the mix powder. Take 1 teaspoon and mix in honey. Take it twice in a day.
