Having an excessively high level of lipids in your blood (hyperlipidemia) can have an effect on your health. High cholesterol itself does not cause any symptoms, but it increases your risk of serious health conditions.

Cholesterol is a waxy (मोम), fat like substance that the body needs to function normally. Cholesterol is naturally present in cell walls or membranes everywhere in the body, including the brain, nerves (तंत्रिकाओं), muscles, skin, liver, intestines (आंत), and heart.

In the majority of people, they have fatty food (वसायुक्त भोजन), cholesterol much more, obesity (मोटापा), smoking, drinking habits for increase the cholesterol level. People have also take high level of saturated food (संतृप्त भोजन), fried food (तला हुआ भोजन), dairy products are blame to high cholesterol level. Also, lack of physical activity can lead to weight gain resulting in increased LDL level and reduction of HDL leading to elevated total cholesterol levels.
There are no direct symptoms in the vast majority of cases, so a blood test is the only way to know whether or not your cholesterol is too high. This is typically defined as having a total blood cholesterol level above 240 milligrams/deciliter (mg/dL).
The principal factor behind in the body is (agni). Digestion is quite literally the basic for good health in every part of the body.

For instance, the creation of healthy body tissue (Dhatu) requires a brightly- burning digestive fire, or metabolic process. A strong agni is equally important in maintaining balance in thedoshas and malas.

Therefore, when digestion, assimilation and elimination are balanced, fat tissue and cholesterol will also be balanced. It’s important to understand that fat tissue (cholesterol) in itself is not bad, and is actually essential for body to function properly.

Hypercholesterolemia is a perfect example of toxins blocking the body channels in the body. Ayurvadic treatment for balancing the body cholesterol consists of herbal medications that eliminate the toxins from the channel and restore the digestive fire to proper function. Advice on diet and regimen adjustment are also given support the treatment.
  • Taking light, low calorie diet is important to avoid high cholesterol.
  • Maintaining regular food timings and taking dinner early in the evening is also useful.
  • Paying attention to digestion and excretion and avoiding indigestion is important when you have high cholesterol.
  • Saturated fats are solid at room temperature. Eating saturated fat should be avoided, because it can lead to imbalanced cholesterol production and disease.
  • Most of the saturated fats come from animal products. They include lard (चरबी), butter, hard cheese, cream, ice cream, beef (गाय का मांस), pork (सूअर का मांस), poultry with skin, palm oil(घूस), and coconut oil.
  • Most of packaged foods and restaurant fried food contain trans fats, the easiest way to avoid these harmful fats is to stop buying packaged food such as doughnuts (डोनट्स), cake, pies, cookies, pastries, pizza dough (पिज्जा का गुंथा हुआ आटा), crackers, biscuits and fried foods (तले हुए खाद्य पदार्थ).
  • Always cook your food and eat it warm, because this helps counteract the cool, earthy Kapha dosha (कफ दोष). Avoid bad fats, and cook with small amount of ghee or olive oil.
  • Mix one teaspoon of Indian gooseberry powder(भारतीय करौदा पाउडर) (amla) in a glass of warm water (गर्म पानी). Drink it daily in the morning on an empty stomach.
  • Take one teaspoon each of black pepper powder (काली मिर्च पाउडर), dry ginger powder (सूखी अदरक पाउडर), turmeric powder (हल्दी पाउडर) and amla powder (आंवला पाउडर). Store in a glass container. Take one teaspoon of this mixture twice daily with lukewarm water.
  • Take 3 parts ground turmeric (पिसी हुई हल्दी), 6 parts ground cumin (जीरा), 6 parts ground coriander (धनिया), 6 parts ground fennel (सौंफ़), 2 parts ground fenugreek (मेथी), 1 part dried ginger (सूखे अदरक)powder and 1 part ground black pepper (काली मिर्च). Combine the spices and store in a sealed container. When preparing your meal, sauté a teaspoon of spices in a small amount of ghee or olive oil. Combine with vegetables.
  • Add two teaspoons of coriander seed (धनिये के बीज) powder to one cup of water. Boil the mixture and then strain it. Drink this once or twice a day. You can add milk, sugar, and cardamom to it and use it as an alternative for your regular tea.
  • Boil few leaves of mint (पुदीना के पत्ते) with water. Add some honey and pepper powder. Drink lukewarm 2-3 times a day.
